The objective of ELECT A NEW CONGRESS, and its website are to provide all 162,000,000 registered American voters the means to elect a new congress dedicated to restoring liberty.
(I had just finished this commentary on Syria when President Obama offered up the need for a review of America’s perpetual war of our attrition. I’ve been through this mill before enough to buy into the hype, but just for grins thought I’d take a look at the content of his speech and I can’t say the President disappointed me. He laid out the same old bullshit of change somewhere down the road again distancing himself from policies established years ago, but policies that he has embraced. If not by his words, which are couched in legalize, most certainly by his actions. However, should anyone every get serious about ending our self-fulfilling and endless war of America’s attrition, here is a historically based proposal within the contingencies of political Liberty.)
The edited content of this essay has been moved and improved over to part III. of the Liberty Trilogy found under the On Liberty segment of the tool bar at electanewcongress.com. It is in the essay “Liberty as Foreign Policy, the Peace of Freedom”. I think it makes a better read than this one.
Syria is like a storm, a very large storm. If seen from space it would appear to be spiraling white, a giant red tinged to a howling black vortex that has nowhere to go but down. It is the ultimate devourer of energy and life, whose solution can only be deduced by narrowing the search to that single point to identify the real truth of what drives this war, this storm which threatens to engage the entire world.
The situation in Syria is driven by the same problem that exists overtly in Afghanistan, Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Pakistan, Palestine, Lebanon, and quietly in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. It is much more a muted issue in Iran, which is a unique study by itself. But suffice to say, it is part of Iran’s problem with its Middle Eastern neighbors and it is the neighbors problem with Iran.
This War Has Been Decided
This war is over and Assad has won. He has won because the opposition neither presented a common front, nor most importantly, create a functioning defacto government. Never has a revolution or civil war been successful that has not duplicated a government to replace the government in power during the military portion of any campaign to overthrow any government. And the opposition to Assad is and will remain far too divided to every meet that level of co-operation required to complete a successful revolution.
It just doesn’t happen that way. Military action is an extension of a political act. In Syria, the military action has become more of a coup d’ eta, as their only political action is to impress a new government from the top down.
The revolution in Syria will never succeed because there is too much opposition in the opposition to establish a single government.
The West wants to have a summit on Syria, and now Assad has agreed to send representatives. If I were him I would send a delegation also, because he can’t lose.
But the World Can Lose, and Large.
What is the West going to do if the summit goes nowhere? Fold their hand and go home, or escalate the war as they have threatened? And if so, to what purpose? Without a political solution, military escalation only means a war that will expand outside of Syria and that will drag the entire world into what can only promise to be WWIII.
Historically, it is the same cause that brought the world to WWI.
Still, this could very well be the result if the United States of America continues its Neo-Con foreign policy of the endless war of our attrition. After Reagan won Cold War I, the Neo-Cons needed a new enemy and so they created one with the Cheney/Powell, Wolfowitz Doctrine to enable Cold War II. This Doctrine then focused its policies upon creating instability in the Middle East.
We just don’t call it the Neo-Con’s Cold War II and America’s endless war of attrition, but that is what it is and remains the truth. And it has been supported by every President since 1988, making our last 4 Presidents all certified Neo-Cons without exception.
History of the Middle East Should Be the Real Study.
Lines on maps drawn after WWI are far more meaningless now than they were meaningless 93 years ago. The years prior to that, European Imperialism was kicking in the door while the Americans were going around the back. But underlying all of that has been the constant motion of Islam fighting itself for 1300 years.
Like most of us, Islam is its own worst enemy.
Everyone should know by now that the war is really between the two sects of Islam. The Sunni, and the Shi’ite. You can call them liberal and conservative and it means nothing. One is more Bedouin Arab, another Persian, other Caucasian, Oriental, or African ranging from the Atlantic, across N. Africa, curving up towards the Black Sea, south to India, and west across steppes and into the mountainous regions of Eurasia.
But at the core, driving Islam has always been about the leadership of Islam. Who has the right to lead Islam? The Shi’ite on one hand say that man must be of the blood of the Prophet. Whereas the Sunni say by the right of might, that it goes to he that can take it and hold it.
And they both have different views of justice. Sunni Sharia law is dogmatic and rigid. On the other hand, Shi’ite Sharia law is much deeper and fluid, and so even in the adjudication of law they are at war. But the Ottoman Empire had a judicial system that functioned properly, at least properly enough, for over 450 years. It is interesting to note that at the Supreme Court level of the Empires judiciary were Christians who decided Sharia law. Sharia courts were for those cases between muslim and muslim while any suit including a Jew or Christian was tried under another code.
It may sound archaic, but it worked. The key was that it disarmed either sect of Islam. True, this would be a challenge in the initial formation of an Islamic Ottoman Empire, but it hasn’t been tried yet and its a damn sight better idea than the one the West is currently working on. Do not discount the theraputic effect that a Liberty based operating system of government is going to have upon the economies of the Middle East. If anyone doubts the veracity of that statement, show them Egypt.
The Capital of United Islamic States
Mecca has often been mentioned as the heart of Islam, and we must give Mecca its due as a focal point of religion if nothing else. There is Jerusalem, where the Dome of the Rock is, and that is a special place. And then there is Istanbul.
Constantinople was first conquered in 1453 by Sultan Mehmed II, a scant 40 before Columbus re-discovered America. Since then, Istanbul has always represented the seat of government for geographic Islam, but still not their religion. Istanbul is also Islam’s contact point with the West.
If Islam and the West are to ever come to terms, it will be through Istanbul. But for Islam to be able to speak to the West through Istanbul, Islam must speak as the single point from Istanbul. And to do that, Islam must speak with a single voice.
Herein lies a Faustian bargain. But at least now we have a geographic fix on what the lines are, who is in and who is out. It also brings the conundrum of the West down to two questions.
The first is who will rule the nations of Islam, and the other, who will rule Islam?
Now is the time to come to a decision on what we can, and cannot do. With a focal point of geography that we can define, it allows a viable plan to formulate a political solution to the problem. Besides, the best way to address the spiritual problem of Islam, is to address the political problem correctly and then let its success help decide the spiritual.
Chicken or egg, the first action is to grab a firm hold of re-creating the Ottoman Islamic Empire by restoring its government. It’s been successful before, as the Ottoman Empire operated from 1453 to 1918. You might say that’s no big shakes, but that’s 150 years longer than the United States has been around and up until recently, our government has been a success story unto itself. So we have to respect the accomplishments of the Ottoman Empire.
Trying to address the Syrian Civil War as a cause and not a symptom can only lead to the continued policy of failure in the Middle East. Any answer to Syria must be conducted through the agency of a resurrected Ottoman Empire, located in Istanbul.
Only through Istanbul can the West can help the “Empire” reform and develop a political system through which issues like Syria can be successfully addressed, because now, there is no forum in which to politically address this type of political problem.
Accounting that America has shown the wisdom to propose the inevitability of a Pan-Arab/Persian State, or Ottoman Empire, is something America has already privately done. The only problem is that America’s commitment is covert and on the side of the Sunni faith and paid for in oil.
The real question is one of American foreign policy. Will America change its Neo-Con foreign policy of supporting one side against the other in Islam’s 1300-year old war that has become a question of America’s attrition?
Because current American foreign policy supports the superiority of the Sunni religious state of Islam that is manifest in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a dualistic nation if there ever was one. Whereas the government is run by the House of Saud, it symbiotically does so at the behest of the House of Wahhabi that operates from Mecca, but financed at the behest of the House of Saud from Riyadh, and both are a tyrannical state.
If the Ottoman Empire were revived as a tyrannical state it will only suit the religious war because it will give them something to fight over. This can only play into the hands of the rule of the Empire by the religious caliphates of Islam, and the 1300-year war of Islam will escalate into the inferno that continues to threaten and engulf the world.
However, if a new Ottoman Empire were established with a daily operating system based upon original American Liberty, then the state will rule. This would place the influence of religious Islam as just another influence in the operation of government, and essentially pull the tigers tooth from this endless Islamic war. In action, the structure of the government will re-channel the religious by dilution as the means of the two religious powers will have been usurped to the state. The two antagonists will remain, but their battlefield will have been transferred to the secular public forum. This forces the power over the government out of the control of the tyrants and back into the hands of the people.
Liberty has this effect. And not only can it work in the Middle East, it can work even smoother in America. But this will never come to pass until the United States of America has restored political Liberty to America. America is where the real battle that decides WWIII is to be fought.
To suggest that the West would fade American policy is very unlikely as it is held hostage of the Federal Reserve Banks QE 2 Eternity. Bernanke’s FED does not send money to the American 2B2Fail banks: No, they send it to every foreign national bank.
And it is these banks that maintain the convection of funds that flow to the American 2B2Fail banks, maintaining the financial charade alive that keeps our 2B2Fail American banks intact and seemingly solvent. As long as America is so ruled by the tyrannical state, peace in the Middle East will never come to pass until the people of United States of America have restored political Liberty to America.
On the Sunni Side of the Street…
America is run by the Neo-Cons that run on oil and the profitable, but endless war on terrorism that is supportrd by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s vision of their Ottoman Empire. This in turn is driven by the Kingdom’s religious strategy for the terrorists war of al Qaeda ,that they are paying for with American petro-dollars and transferred by Riyadh to the Wahhabi’s of Mecca to operate, because America is on the Sunni side of the street. That’s the deal America made by Standard Oil with Ibn Saud in the 1930’s, and we’ve both stuck to it.
Call it a deal with the Devil and you might be more right than you think.
First this must change, and this can only happen when America changes.
In any event, it is war of our attrition that is bleeding America white. And until Americans ourselves call a halt to the systemic failure of our own tyrannical state and replace it with Political Liberty, hopefully by our vote, WE’RE ALL FUCKED!
Serfs Up America! The waves are getting higher….
